I know from personal experience that the PDA's Environmental Mycology
Identification Workshops are excellent courses. They offer introductory and
advanced courses. Of course, please do keep current with the PMF's
conferences, as it frequently offers informative conferences on this topic.

Subject: Re: [PMFLIST] fungi identification

First and foremost, for identification of microorganisms including
environmental fungi requires basic education or training in mycology.

Many of the common environmental isolates can be easily identified to their
class and/or genus levels if one follows the fundamental classification of
fungi. For that a practical training in fungal culture, microscopy and
structure identification is a basic requirement.
One can get this only through laboratory exercise with trained
mycologists. There are many labs that provide this fundamental
training or you can approach any university and get trained.

What is the more practical method for identification of environmental fungi?

Thank you.
